Radio Shack is actually fine. Make sure it has an audible tone for continuity (shorts) checking.

The best are Fluke/Phillips. Don't pay more than $200. Although I have not checked I can't imagine that Radio Shack is more than $100. A friend of mine has one with a computer interface. Pretty cool but irrelevant working on a motorcycle.

The only limitation for some digital meters is the current(Amps) reading limit. Check in your service manual for what the maximum current readings you should expect and make sure that the meter you buy meets that requirement. Voltage and Resistance reading requirements should not be an issue.
